In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

Why it matters

This describes the local brow-to-nasal-root relationship separately from the forehead’s full slope. The brow and the root jointly determine the measured prominence.

  • Lower: the brow direction is closer to vertical above the nasal root.
  • Higher: it diverges farther from that vertical.
