Schematic illustration, not to scale. Lines show the measurement construction; this is not an ideal face or a scored result.

Why it matters

It compares the taper of the central face with the taper of the lower face. Similar numbers mean these two geometric constructions have similar angles, even though their widths and heights can differ.

  • Near zero: the two reported angles are similar.
  • Larger: the reported angles differ more, regardless of which is greater.

Where the idea comes from

FaceIQ adaptation

This is a composite FaceIQ comparison built from two existing measurements. The cited feature-arrangement study gives context, but does not test whether matching these angles improves attractiveness. [1]

A worked example

An alar angle of 91° and jaw frontal angle of 88° differ by 3°. Reversing those values still gives 3°.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range and are not measurements of the schematic above.

New “Golden” Ratios for Facial Beauty

Four experiments varied eye spacing and eye-to-mouth distance in face images. Preferences depended on feature arrangement. The tested ratios and stimuli do not validate every FaceIQ measurement or a universal ideal.
