In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

Why it matters

This compares the height and horizontal separation of two midface landmarks. It describes their relative geometry rather than the projection of a single bone.

  • Lower: the connecting direction is more horizontal.
  • Higher: it is more vertical, for the same image orientation.

A worked example
