Mouth Corner Position

Average vertical position of the mouth corners relative to the central mouth seam.

What is measured

The calculation

Mean of (mouth-center y − corner y) × photo scale

Schematic illustration, not to scale. Lines show the measurement construction; this is not an ideal face or a scored result.

Why it matters

This describes the resting direction of the mouth outline. It differs from symmetry: both corners can be equally downturned, or opposite offsets can cancel in the average.

  • Negative: corners sit below the central seam on average.
  • Positive: corners sit above the central seam on average.

Where the idea comes from

FaceIQ adaptation

This is a FaceIQ landmark-based description of facial shape. The linked research provides background on facial measurement or perception; it has not directly validated this exact formula or its score. [1]

A worked example

Corners 1 mm and 3 mm above the center average +2 mm. Corners at +2 and −2 mm average zero despite asymmetry.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range and are not measurements of the schematic above.

The sources below explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; these papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.
