In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

Why it matters

It compares the upright and lower portions of the jaw outline. A longer side portion and a shorter lower-border portion both increase the ratio.

  • Lower: a shorter side segment relative to the lower segment.
  • Higher: a longer side segment relative to the lower segment.
