In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.
Why it matters
It compares the upright and lower portions of the jaw outline. A longer side portion and a shorter lower-border portion both increase the ratio.
- Lower: a shorter side segment relative to the lower segment.
- Higher: a longer side segment relative to the lower segment.

A 60-unit constructed side segment and 90-unit lower segment give 0.67.
